Naked House...

...that's what I (we) have now that the Christmas tree has been taken down. And yes, as a matter of fact I DO realize it is January 11th!!! :-)

I love our Christmas tree and all the memories it displays. There are the small silky balls that I bought for my first "college student" Christmas tree that was a cedar tree cut near my grandparents ranch in Osage county (Oklahoma), then there are all those "Texas" ornaments that we collected during our seminary days, and the ornaments that document the various vacation spots my husband and I visited B.C. (before children), and of course, now there are the ornaments that document the travels of our girls--some day I will lovingly (and tearfully, I'm sure) pack those ornaments and send them on their way to newly established homes.

Oh yes, I love Christmas and the wonderful memories that hang on our tree each year.

I sent some of our ornaments off with my eldest when he got married.

You'd think I lost half my heart! It was such a bittersweet moment.

I was so sad when I saw their tree this year and noticed that there were none of his ornaments on it. My daughter in law likes theme trees and his second grade sleds and third grade clothes pin soldiers just didn't make the cut.

Broke my heart.

That sounds really neat. You could have just left it up all year.

ooooh *inspecting the tree* are those real cranberries, or just colored balls? I like the deep red.

I'm starting my own collection of Christmas ornaments, though I haven't had a tree in the house since 2002. I'm not sure what the cat would do with unlimited (and unsupervised) access to one.

kim: I understand your heart break over this!!! I tried out a 'designer' tree the first year we moved to Dallas--it was a total BOMB. From that year on we've had trees with character and MEMORIES!

nicholas: I've considered that! But our house is pretty short on space, so practicality won out! But oh how tempting it is!!

marcian: Our cats have loved the tree as much as us! Ha! Our youngest cat manages to find a low-hanging ornament (we purposely put the more durable ones down low) and turns them into hockey pucks!! It's a riot--unless it's in the wee hours of the morning!

Your tree is lovely, Connie. I didn't take my tree down until the day before Epiphany. I think it made me even more sad to pack away my Advent Wreath. I liked lighting that Christ candle and singing each night. *sigh* But, like you, practicality must win out when you have 6 people living in 900 sq. feet!
