Am I a "groupie"?

This morning as I was going through my "routine" blog check--I have a list of about 4-6 favorites that I check regularly (much better than wasting my time on the local newspaper)--I discovered (not surprisingly) that TeamPyro had yet another post that I found of particular interest.

As I prepared to post a link on my blog to TeamPyro it ocurred to me that some folks may accuse me of being a Pyromaniacs "groupie"!! Hmmmmm, so be it! :-) The fact of the matter is, the guys at Pyromaniacs have recently tackled some topics and matters that are near and dear to my heart--and my own Xian experience.

The two primary topics on my mind and heart are, 1) the misuse and abuse of God's Word, and 2) the misrepresentation of who God is--ALL of His character and attributes.

So, without further ado, I encourage you to check out Dan Phillips' post on Fundamental convictions about the Word, and the difference they make.

Sidenote as of 2:10 p.m. CT - I posted a comment to Dan's post EARLY this morning. Since then it seems that I've gotten myself into a bit of a "fray" in the comments section of this Pyro post. It completely caught me off guard, as I consider most of my comments to be pretty benign. But I must admit this has been a profitable and challenging exercise--I don't ever want to stop learning! Takes me back to the days when John was in seminary--I loved to sit in on those discussions!!

Practicing Theology: "The Holy Spirit revealed to me...", or "God told me..."

"So, there is nothing new under the sun." Ecclesiastes 1:9

"Team Pyro" at Pyromaniacs is in the habit of posting one of Charles Spurgeon's sermons every weekend. This week the posted sermon deals with the matter of making claims such as "The Holy Spirit revealed to me...". Spurgeon's sermon serves as a reminder to us that there truly is NOTHING new under the sun--including the misuse and abuse of God and His Word.

There was a time during my early days as a Charismatic believer when I heard many claims tossed around--sadly, I was guilty of tossing some around myself--most served as an attempt to elevate the individual in some way. I now shudder as I remember the blatantly unbiblical things that were (and still are) proclaimed and held up as "God breathed".

If those who profess to be redeemed will devote their time, mind and energy to the things God has clearly revealed in his Word, they would have no "need" to add, embellish, or craft some new thought or understanding.

As Spurgeon has said, "Believer! there is enough in the Bible for thee to live upon for ever. If thou shouldst outnumber the years of Methusaleh, there would be no need for a fresh revelation; if thou shouldst live till Christ should come upon the earth, there would be no necessity for the addition of a single word; if thou shouldst go down as deep as Jonah, or even descend as David said he did, into the belly of hell, still there would be enough in the Bible to comfort thee without a supplementary sentence."

May we strive to know and share God's word which is more than sufficient and inexhaustible!

God's Word vs. vain things

One of my favorite blogs, Pyromaniacs, regularly posts articles from the Spurgeon Archives. Please consider checking out today's post entitled, "Turning Away From Vanity". It is a wonderful reminder that God's Word is to be our steady diet--not the latest little tidbit or novelty held out under the guise of improving upon God's Word.

Are we people who are tempted to sample the latest fads or heresies among us? Or are we people who feast at the Lord's banquet table--God's Word--rather than looking on the floor for the little morsels scattered about by those who believe the banquet table is incomplete.
