~ John MacArthur
"...There is no event and there are no circumstances in life that should diminish the Christian's joy. Let me say that again. There is no event and there are no circumstances in life that should diminish the Christian's joy.
In fact, let me go further than that. If there are circumstances or events that do diminish your joy, you have sinned...you have sinned..."

Interesting quote. I've been thinking a lot about this lately. Enjoying the good things in life, contrition for sin, how much to focus on either, and the relationship of the cross to all things...
Wow, I was just talking to my husband last night about wanting more joy. I'd really like to read more this article/book. Where did you find it? Thanks.
christina: It is a John MacArthur article I found on the web. I printed it off and didn't bookmark it--I'll try to find the link and let you know!
Also, J.I. Packer has some excellent work on the topic of Christian joy. Let me know if you'd like the titles!
christina: Here's the link to the MacArthur article I mentioned, http://www.biblebb.com/files/MAC/90-122.HTM
Thanks, Connie. I'd love to know the titles of the J.I. Packer books as well. I've read Knowing God, but am not familiar with any other of his works.
After commenting before I remembered that John Piper has written on fighting for joy as well.
Thanks again.
christina: Here are a couple of Packer books you may not be familiar with -
1) Great Joy: A 31-Day Devotional
2) Hot Tub Religion (chapter 6 "Joy - The Neglected Discipline")
I've been slowly reading through both of these for many months now. Enjoy!
