In Memory of Theodore ~ 08/08 - 10/17/08

This adorable little guy was part of our family for a very short time recently--in our hearts for many weeks while we waited for him to be old enough to be weaned from his mother.

Unfortunately, he tested positive (twice) for feline leukemia and we had to make the VERY difficult decision to put him down. He was technically Olga's kitten--so naturally there have been some difficult and 'maturing' moments recently.

Lots of opportunities for John and I to teach and discuss with our girls, but does one ever 'adjust' to the consequences of the Fall?

Moments before hearing the bad news of his second test.

Snuggling with Nina days before the second test.

Cuddled in my lap while sitting at the computer--the day after he joined our family.

I am so sorry about your loss of Theodore. They do become members of our family so quickly, don't they...

Oh, I'm sorry. It's sad to lose a pet--no matter how long you've had him.

kim and dorothy: Thank you ladies so much. I've been quite caught off-guard at how suddenly and freely my tears still flow over this little guy--but I'd much rather have a tender heart than a hard one!

Oh, how sad! Olga must be hurting. You can bond rather quickly to the little beasts. I'm so sorry.

I found a little kitten, not yet weaned, at my apartment complex over a year ago. I couldn't keep her because I was busy with the tests and had to take her to the pound. In the 24 hours I had her, I taught her to use a litter pan, eat solid food and drink water from a bowl. Being feral, she hated me at first, but soon clung to me with her tiny claws like I was her mother, and hid at the nape of my neck under my hair. Watching the man carry her away to the sound of cacophonous barking and meowing was heart wrenching. I had to understand that I could not accept all of life's joys and none of its sorrows.

marian: "...accept all of the joys and none of its sorrows." Amen.

I like to think of it as God's 'smiling' providence and God's 'frowning' providence. But of course, symantics don't make these things any easier.

Oh, Connie, I'm so sorry. Having just recently lost our 12-year-old family dog, I can really appreciate the sadness your family feels. We used the opportunity to share with our children about the consequences of the Fall, too, and I am still caught off guard at how quickly I still cry about the loss of our 'little buddy.'
