"Put Another Log on the Fire"

We had our fireplace serviced a couple of weeks ago--prompted by the ice storm in December that knocked out our power (and heat!!) for about four days. It had been years since we used our fireplace, but we're making up for that now!

I have gladly assumed the 'fire making and tending' responsibilities (former Girl Scout, you know) and have been singing a little song lately to accompany my 'fire tending' duties (joys!).

If you've never heard this song, check it out on YouTube, ala "The Muppet's".

"Put Another Log on the Fire"

Put another log
On the fire.
Cook me up some bacon
And some beans.
And go out to the car
And change the tire.
Wash my socks
And sew my old blue jeans.
Come on, Baby,
You can fill my pipe,
And then go
Fetch my slippers.
And boil me up
Another pot of tea.
Then put another log
On the fire, Babe,
And come and tell me
Why you're leaving me.

Now don't I let you wash
The car on Sunday?
Don't I warn you
When you're gettin fat?
Ain't I a-gonna take you
Fishin' with me someday?
Well, a man can't love a woman
More than that!
Ain't I always nice
To your kid sister?
Don't I take her
Driving every night?
So, sit here at my feet
'Cus I like you when you're sweet,
And you know
It ain't feminine to fight.

So, put another
Log on the fire.
Cook me up some bacon
And some beans.
Go out to the car and
Lift it up and change the tire.
Wash my socks
And sew my old blue jeans.
Come on, Baby,
You can fill my pipe,
And then go
Fetch my slippers.
And boil me up
Another pot of tea.
Then put another log
On the fire, Babe,
And come and tell me
Why you're leaving me.

Hi Connie! You know, I think this funny song even pre-dates the Muppets. I remember my dad singing parts of it when I was a little girl!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting. I really appreciate it!

cindy: Really???!! I'll bet your dad was a lot of fun! :-) I have some memories of some silly songs my dad used to launch into from time to time!

marcian: Glad I was able to enlarge and/or enrich your cultural awareness! Ha! :-)
